2007 NC Beautiful Classic a Resounding Success
NC Beautiful would like to thank Honorary Chair Coach Dean Smith, and our guests the 82nd Airborne All American Chorus for making the 2007 Classic an event to remember. What a wonderful way to celebrate NC Beautiful's Fortieth Anniversary!
The event kicked off Friday at our Champagne registration, courtesy of Biltmore Estates Winery, and our Opening Reception on the West Lawn. Many thanks to our sponsors who made the newest class of Moore Fellows and Environmental Scholars feel so welcome.
Saturday's perfect Carolina Blue Skies were a great welcome for Coach Dean Smith who kicked off the play on Tom Fazio-designed Number 8. Play ended with just enough time for everyone to eat, grab a quick wash and then meet up in the Cardinal Ballroom for Coach Smith's Q&A. The questions were a good mix of on and off the court questions, with Coach Smith handling them with the humor and wit he is renowned for from his press conference days. After the event, Coach graciously stayed to pose for pictures and sign autographs for grateful participants.
Saturday Night was a wonderful party, the auction was lively, the food was delicious and there wasn't a dry eye in the place when the 82nd Airborne All American Chorus completed their performance. The Cardinal Room was standing room only and even visitors from other parts of the resort were seen packing the hallway listening to them sing. It was an honor and a privilege to have the Chorus at our event, and we thank them for all that they did that night and continue to do on behalf of all Americans.
Despite a short rain delay on Sunday, which gave everyone a chance to sport their new Adidas-TaylorMade wind jackets, the tournament concluded right on schedule, with just a few heads hanging coming off the challenging No. 8, while Ellis Maples' Course No. 5 was in excellent shape after the rain.
Teams from EDS, The Eastern Band of Cherokee, and Altria were among the winners holding the prestigious Putterboy at Sunday's 37th Hole Awards party. NC Beautiful would like to acknowledge the wonderful support of the Pinehurst staff, the hard work of our volunteers, and the generous support of our sponsors; all of which contributed to making the 2007 Classic, and NC Beautiful's Fortieth Anniversary, an event to remember.
